Who else bends to the will of their fur babies? 🙂 In an effort to provide healthy treats, I came across a great recipe that I ended up tweaking to perfection. The original called for regular flour & peanut butter, neither of which I wanted to use. I’ve made this recipe dozens of times, and our dogs go crazzzzy for these delights! I would recommend making sure your fur babies don’t have any allergies to Almond Butter before you make them. This recipe can be halved as well. Since these treats are perishable, I keep a container in the fridge and freeze the rest until needed.
Dog Treat Recipe
Ingredients:
(2) 16 oz cans Pumpkin
2 cups Almond Butter
5 Eggs
1/2 cup oil (Olive, Grapeseed or Avocado oil work best)
9 cups Oat Flour (I get Quick Oats, then blend them into a powder with my single serve Ninja cup / Food Processor)
4 tsp Baking Soda
1 cup Rice Flour – approximate (I used Bob’s Red Mill – for use to prevent sticking while rolling out)
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat Oven to 350 degrees
Mix Pumpkin, Almond Butter, Eggs, Olive Oil & Baking Soda with Electric Mixer. Slowly add Oat Flour, cup by cup, mixing as you go. You may have to hand mix in the last few cups of flour. Dough should be stiff and slightly sticky. Dust some Rice flour on counter, then scoop out a portion of the dough about the size of a grapefruit. Dust top of dough with rice flour, then start rolling out with rolling pin. Add more rice flour if rolling pin starts pulling up the dough. Roll out to about 1/4″ thick. Choose cookie cutters in desired size. Repeat process until all dough has been rolled out & cut. Use metal spatula or scraper to lift the cookies off of the counter and place on baking sheet/tray leaving about 1/2″ between each cookie. Bake for 17-20 minutes or until hardened. Let cool before placing in containers. Our dogs have gotten so used to the smell of these, that they know exactly what I am up to when I start getting into the ingredients. I honestly don’t know how many this makes. It’s a very large batch (we have 4 dogs), so you may want to half the recipe your first time. They do keep nicely in the freezer, though. And the Best Fur Mama award goes to…….. YOU! Happy Baking ~ your pooches are gonna love you for this!
