I don’t know about you, but sleep is one of my favorite things. The way I look at it, I owe it to myself to get a good nights rest. A good nights rest makes me feel great the next day, like I can take on the world! There have been times in my life where I wasn’t getting enough sleep, and relied on caffeine and quick fix foods to keep my energy levels up. Not getting enough sleep is self sabotage.
For those of us who have very busy minds, busy days & full plates…..you need more sleep than you might realize. Additionally, if you are very physically active or you have had a more emotionally exhausting day, you will likely require more sleep than your “normal”. Everyone’s “magic sleep number” is different, and I’ve read many different articles about what is “right” and what we should get. Ultimately it comes down to how you feel the most optimal. Bringing awareness to how much sleep you are getting and what behaviors may be triggered is a great place to start. Personally, I like a solid 8 hours.
Tips for Better Sleep:
- If you are in bed, and your mind is racing with your to do’s for the next day, or simply have thoughts swirling from the day….. either keep a notebook by your bed to jot a few things down for tomorrow OR type them in your Notes section in your phone.
- Start bringing the lights down a couple of hours before bedtime. Utilize dim & soft lighting through using candles & lamps. (See below for my FAVORITE remote controlled flameless candles)
- Switch to night mode on your phone/devices, and stow them away 2 hours before bedtime. Get out of any habit of scrolling while in bed. (I know, I know, sorry to be the fun police) Trust me, if you want to feel like a Queen tomorrow 😉
- Stick to a consistent sleep schedule. A regular bedtime is one part of the equation, but waking up at the same time daily will also help keep your circadian rhythm in check. It may be tempting to grab some extra shut-eye on weekends, but doing so can throw off your body clock during the week.
- Rise & Shine ~ Go for a morning walk, open blinds, or turn on sufficient lights in the house. This will give you a quick energy boost & reset your circadian rhythm; additionally, providing your body a signal to your brain that it’s time to start the day.
Not getting sufficient sleep can lead to:

I LOVE these DoTerra Serenity Softgels for evenings when I feel my mind is still very busy, and I need to relax. They are a natural sleep aid. They contain lavender essential oil, L-theanine, lemon balm, passionflower, and chamomile to gently promote relaxation and sleep. Additionally, they are non-habit forming, and will not give you any grogginess like other “sleeping pills” can do.
This is my FAVORITE Diffuser/Humidifier. I have several in my home, and give them as gifts all the time. You can benefit from using this at bedtime by diffusing your favorite Lavender Essential Oil
Now Foods Stevia (My FAVORITE no calorie sweetener)
